2011 Quill awards overview


Congratulations to the winners of the 2011 Quill Awards for Excellence in Victorian Journalism.

The 2011 Quill Awards were held at the Crown Palladium on 23rd March 2012, acknowledging the best in Victorian journalism throughout the past year.

Among the night’s winners:

  • The Age & The Age Online journalists Nick McKenzie, Maris Beck & Tom McKendrick won the Monash University Gold Quill for their exposé of the illegal sex trade
  • 3AW’s Neil Mitchell took out the Graham Perkin Australian Journalist of the Year Award- John Hamilton of the Herald Sun won the Lifetime Achievement Award for a 50-year career at the West Australian, The Age and the Herald & Weekly Times.
  • John Hamilton won the 2011 Melbourne Press Club Lifetime Achievement Award for a 50-year career at the West Australian, The Age and the Herald & Weekly Times.
  • Herald Sun’s Amelia Harris has won the 2011 Young Journalist of the Year Award for a body of work that included an exclusive on Victoria Police fudging crime statistics, coverage of the Occupy Melbourne protest and reporting on the problem of repeat drink driving.
