Ron Tandberg of The Age won the 2014 Quill Award for Best Cartoon for ‘The Barnacle Budget’.
Judges’ comment
Tandberg’s trademark simplicity of style conveys the idea immediately. It shows Tony Abbott, a workman and a canoe, which is all that is left once the barnacles are off. It’s a funny and clever linking of the budget woes and the submarine controversy, using the Defence Minister’s canoe comment and Abbott’s barnacle comment.
Highly Commended
Mark Knight of the Herald Sun was highly commended in this category for a beautifully drawn charicature of Abbott the boxer and Credlin as his coach.
