2014 Quills: Best TV or Video Current Affairs Feature

Caro Meldrum-Hanna, Ali Russell, Max Murch and Clare Blumer of ABC Four Corners won the 2014 Quill for Best TV or Video Current Affairs Feature.

Judges’ statement

The Four Corners team took enormous risks to offer a compelling and confronting insight into the ice scourge plaguing communities throughout regional Australia. The program used the current affairs TV medium to graphically depict the physical and emotional impact of ice on both users and their families. It highlighted that addiction was particularly common among young teenagers and exposed a dire shortage of support services for users of the drug. The degree of difficulty in convincing ice addicts to go on camera to tell their stories is a testament to the investigative skill of the team. The program prompted an enormous public response resulting in its use in national education campaigns and an online question and answer forum.
