Jenan Taylor of Monash University won the Melbourne Press Club 2014 Student Journalist of the Year Award for ‘A Quiet Farewell’, published in The Weekend Australian.

Judges’ statement:

Jenan’s investigation into what happens when a pauper dies was an original and compassionate idea, excellently researched. It shone a light on how we treat the most marginal in society. The judges were impressed by her engaging and thoroughly original approach, and the tone which displayed an appropriate level of respect and dignity.
