John Hamilton

John Hamilton won the 2011 Melbourne Press Club Lifetime Achievement Award for a 50-year career at the West Australian, The Age and the Herald & Weekly Times.

In the 1960s, Hamilton won Walkleys for his coverage of the Tasmanian bushfires and the disappearance of Harold Holt. He was a Washington correspondent in the 1970s and then became a special writer as well as a war historian and author.

He retired in 2011, having seen off 31 editors and editors-in-chief.
