This is News Satire

Melbourne Press Club intern Cathryn Boyes dives into the world of Australian TV news satire with two questions: how much serious journalism is going on behind the scenes? And is comedy a vehicle for the news, or is it the main event?

Interviewed for this video:

  • Ashlynne McGhee - An investagive journalist working on the ABC's 7.30 program, Ashlynne previously worked on satire show The Weekly with Charlie Pickering. Ashlynne is also the Melbourne Press Club's vice president.
  • Pat McCaffrie - A writer and comedian currently working on Shaun Micallef's Mad as Hell, Pat is a former host of The Leak on Melbourne's Channel 31.
