Entries have opened for the 2016 Quill Awards for excellence in Victorian journalism – with 27 prizes covering print, broadcasting and digital media.
The awards have been substantially reviewed and upgraded to better reflect our rapidly changing media landscape. A new Quill for “Innovation in Journalism” has been created.
It is open to all media but looks particularly to recognise fresh talent and creativity in the digital news space.
In other changes, the Quill for headline writing has been discontinued and the Quills for regional and rural affairs reporting and suburban reporting have been combined in a new Quill for Suburban or Regional Journalism.
The Gold Quill will be awarded to the work judged best of all the Quill winners. The $7500 prize again is supported by Melbourne Press Club principal sponsors Monash University and Virgin Australia.
The 2016 Quill Awards – the 21st to be presented - are open to all journalists employed by Victorian media organisations or those who work primarily for Victorian media outlets.
Melbourne Press Club members are entitled to one free entry. Non-members and members submitting additional entries pay an administration fee of $95 per entry.
Entries close on Thursday 2 February 2017. Finalists in all categories will be named in early March and winners will be announced at the annual Quills dinner at Crown Palladium on Friday 17 March. Bookings for the dinner open in early February.
