Applications for the 2019 China Australia Journalist Exchange are closed. Please stay tuned for further announcements.

Six Australian journalists will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the vital relationship between China and Australia, with a special focus on environmental issues.

Participants will see developments in clean energy technology, including international collaboration to reduce carbon emissions. They will also explore the fallout from US-China trade tensions and the progress of China’s multi-billion-dollar Belt and Road initiative.

The program will run from 11 to 19 November 2019, with visits to Beijing, Shanghai and Qingdao.

Applications are invited from all media including early to mid-career journalists. Applicants are required to provide supporting references and show how they would benefit from the program.

The China Australia Journalist Exchange was established in 2013 by the Asia Pacific Journalism Centre and the All-China Journalists Association to improve the capacity of journalists in each country to cover the bilateral relationship in its growing complexity.

This year’s China visit is being run in collaboration with the Melbourne Press Club. Funding is being provided by the Australian Embassy in Beijing.

Since the first Exchange, about 50 journalists have participated. Australian fellows of the program have come from all states and all media platforms.

Applications close Wednesday 18 September.
